Well, this is crazy. The LIFE project at the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has plans to create a mini sun in the lab, one that could create more energy than it takes to create.
Yes, we’re talking about fusion here. By focusing 192 huge laser beams at one 2mm ball of frozen hydrogen gas, they hope to create nearly limitless free energy. Oh, and it gets better:
In addition, the LIFE engine design can be “charged” with fission fuel. The resulting fission reactions will produce additional energy that can be harvested for electricity production. Moreover, by using depleted uranium or spent nuclear fuel from existing nuclear power plants in the blanket, a LIFE engine will be capable of burning the by-products of the current nuclear fuel cycle. Because the fusion neutrons are produced independently of the fission process, the fission fuel could be used without reprocessing. In this way, LIFE may be able to consume nuclear waste as fuel, mitigate against further nuclear proliferation, and provide long-term sustainability of carbon-free energy. A LIFE engine, via pure fusion or through the combination of fusion and fission, will generate the steady heat required to drive turbines for generating from 1,000 to 2,500 MW of safe, environmentally attractive electric power 24 hours a day for decades.
So wait, not only will it create free, limitless energy, but it will also do so while getting rid of harmful nuclear waste? OK, I guess I’m on board.

TR-3B
A friend said, he would never forget the sight of the alien looking TR-3B based at Papoose. The pitch black, triangular shaped TR-3B was rarely mentioned--and then, only in hushed whispers--at the Groom Lake facility where he worked. The craft had flown over the Groom Lake runway in complete silence and magically stopped above Area S-4. It hovered silently in the same position, for some 10 minutes, before gently settling vertically to the tarmac. At times a corona of silver blue light glowed around the circumference of the massive TR-3B. The operational model is 600 feet across.
The TR-3B is Code named Astra. The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B first operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program. It is funded and operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with technology available in the mid 80s. Not every UFO spotted is one of theirs.
The TR-3B vehicles outer coating is reactive to electrical Radar stimulation and can change reflectiveness, radar absorptiveness, and color. This polymer skin, when used in conjunction with the TR-3Bs Electronic Counter Measures and, ECCM, can make the vehicle look like a small aircraft, or a flying cylinder--or even trick radar receivers into falsely detecting a variety of aircraft, no aircraft, or several aircraft at various locations. A circular, plasma filled accelerator ring called the Magnetic Field Disrupter, surrounds the rotatable crew compartment and is far ahead of any imaginable technology.
Sandia and Livermore laboratories developed the reverse engineered MFD technology. The government will go to any lengths to protect this technology. The plasma, mercury based, is pressurized at 250,000 atmospheres at a temperature of 150 degrees Kelvin and accelerated to 50,000 rpm to create a super-conductive plasma with the resulting gravity disruption. The MFD generates a magnetic vortex field, which disrupts or neutralizes the effects of gravity on mass within proximity, by 89 percent. Do not misunderstand. This is not antigravity. Anti-gravity provides a repulsive force that can be used for propulsion. The MFD creates a disruption of the Earth's gravitational field upon the mass within the circular accelerator. The mass of the circular accelerator and all mass within the accelerator, such as the crew capsule, avionics, MFD systems, fuels, crew environmental systems, and the nuclear reactor, are reduced by 89%. This causes the effect of making the vehicle extremely light and able to outperform and outmaneuver any craft yet constructed--except, of course, those UFOs we did not build.
The TR-3B is a high altitude, stealth, reconnaissance platform with an indefinite loiter time. Once you get it up there at speed, it doesnt take much propulsion to maintain altitude. At Groom Lake their have been whispered rumours of a new element that acts as a catalyst to the plasma. With the vehicle mass reduced by 89%, the craft can travel at Mach 9, vertically or horizontally. My sources say the performance is limited only the stresses that the human pilots can endure. Which is a lot, really, considering along with the 89% reduction in mass, the G forces are also reduced by 89%.
The TR-3Bs propulsion is provided by 3 multimode thrusters mounted at each bottom corner of the triangular platform. The TR-3 is a sub-Mach 9 vehicle until it reaches altitudes above l20,000 feet--then God knows how fast it can go! The 3 multimode rocket engines mounted under each corner of the craft use hydrogen or methane and oxygen as a propellent. In a liquid oxygen/hydrogen rocket system, 85% of the propellent mass is oxygen. The nuclear thermal rocket engine uses a hydrogen propellent, augmented with oxygen for additional thrust. The reactor heats the liquid hydrogen and injects liquid oxygen in the supersonic nozzle, so that the hydrogen burns concurrently in the liquid oxygen afterburner. The multimode propulsion system can; operate in the atmosphere, with thrust provided by the nuclear reactor, in the upper atmosphere, with hydrogen propulsion, and in orbit, with the combined hydrogen\ oxygen propulsion.
What you have to remember is, that the 3 rocket engines only have to propel 11 percent of the mass of the Top Secret TR-3B. The engines are reportedly built by Rockwell. Many sightings of triangular UFOs are not alien vehicles but the top secret TR-3B. The NSA, NRO, CIA, and USAF have been playing a shell game with aircraft nomenclature - creating the TR-3, modified to the TR-3A, the TR-3B, and the Teir 2, 3, and 4, with suffixes like Plus or Minus added on to confuse further the fact that each of these designators is a different aircraft and not the same aerospace vehicle. A TR-3B is as different from a TR-3A as a banana is from a grape. Some of these vehicles are manned and others are unmanned.

Irish President makes historic visit to Baha'i Centre
28 May 2010Dublin, Ireland — The President of the Republic of Ireland, Mary McAleese, has praised the universality of the Baha'i teachings and the contribution its members make to the life of their nation.
"You are marked out as people with values that are worth observing, worth learning from, worth looking at, worth imitating and so never be in any doubt of the value you are every single day in this world," President McAleese told a gathering of some 60 Baha'is during her first ever visit to the national Baha'i Centre in the Irish capital.
"Something you probably do not know, and I am sure it is true of many of you, is that in and through your lives, you are extraordinary ambassadors for your Faith," she said in impromptu remarks.
President McAleese, first elected as Ireland's President in 1997, made her special visit to the Baha'i Centre on 30 April to mark the Festival of Ridvan, the anniversary of Baha'u'llah's declaration in 1863 that He is the most recent in a line of divine Messengers that includes Buddha, Jesus, Krishna, Mohammed, Moses, Zoroaster, and others.
The President also expressed concern about the persecution of Baha'is in other countries. She said it was both sad and remarkable that a Faith with such principles would attract, in any shape or form, violence from others.
"And on this evening I think we just keep in our hearts those who are paying such a dear price for their fidelity to that simple human and divine charism that reaches right into the heart of humanity," said President McAleese.
During her visit, President McAleese, right, spoke with young Baha'is from the Dublin area
The President, right, was presented with a specially bound copy of The Hidden Words of Baha'u'llah, in both English and the Irish language. She is pictured here… »
The President of the Republic of Ireland, Mary McAleese, left, talks with two members of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Ireland - Mr. Brendan… »
"How fortunate all Irish people are to live in a State where followers of all religions or none are free to practice," she added, according to The Irish Times, which covered her visit.
During the reception, President McAleese was presented with a specially bound edition of the Baha'i book, The Hidden Words of Baha'u'llah, in both English and the Irish language.
Brendan McNamara, the Chairman of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the Republic of Ireland, described the President's visit as "a milestone - a very joyous occasion."
"She was very generous and spoke with everybody present," said Mr. McNamara, "particularly taking time to encourage the youth - in whatever they were doing - to make a contribution to the future of Ireland."
SAY (OR CRY) UNCLE
[Q] From Courteney Schroeppel: Where does Say Uncle come from?
[A] It’s always the shortest questions that take the longest to answer. There has been a lot of speculation about this idiom. I am now able, as a result of help from several sources, to provide a clear pointer to where it comes from.
This call by one child for another to submit or cry for mercy — which appears variously as say uncle!, cry uncle! or holler uncle! — is first recorded in print in the US early in the twentieth century. The Oxford English Dictionary’s first example is from 1918, but I’ve found an instance in an advertisement in the Modesto News of California, dated 1912: “This Time it is ‘Martie’ Graves and Don Johns who made them say ‘Uncle.’”
The speculations are ingenious: one from American Speech in 1980 was that “Uncle in this expression is surely a folk etymology, and the Irish original of the word is anacol ... ‘act of protecting; deliverance; mercy, quarter, safety’, a verbal noun from the Old Irish verb aingid, ‘protects’ ”. If that sounds unlikely, try a theory that William and Mary Morris turned up, that it goes back to a Latin expression used by Roman youngsters who got into trouble: patrue mi patruissime “uncle, my best of uncles”. It may be rather more probable that it’s a requirement that the person should cry for his uncle in order to be let free. But why uncle?
Interestingly, the earliest examples — found by Dan Norder — are all in the form of a joke. This has a number of forms which appeared in various US newspapers from 1891 through to about 1907 (and which reappeared in the early 1940s), often on the children’s pages. This is the earliest he has found, from the Iowa Citizen of 9 October 1891:
A gentleman was boasting that his parrot would repeat anything he told him. For example, he told him several times, before some friends, to say “Uncle,” but the parrot would not repeat it. In anger he seized the bird, and half-twisting his neck, said: “Say ‘uncle,’ you beggar!” and threw him into the fowl pen, in which he had ten prize fowls. Shortly afterward, thinking he had killed the parrot, he went to the pen. To his surprise he found nine of the fowls dead on the floor with their necks wrung, and the parrot standing on the tenth twisting his neck and screaming: “Say ‘uncle,’ you beggar! say uncle.’”
Later versions make the reason for choosing uncle as the key word clearer by starting the story “A man whose niece had coaxed him to buy her a parrot succeeded in getting a bird that was warranted a good talker.”
The vital question is the same as that regarding the chicken and the egg: which came first, the joke or the children’s call to submit? George H Goebel, Assistant Editor of the Dictionary of American Regional English, points out in private correspondence that the Iowa Citizen attributes the joke to a periodical called Spare Moments, which was a London weekly of the period. He comments, “An English origin is also suggested by some points of language: ‘a gentleman’ and ‘you beggar’ both sound slightly off to an American ear, and are removed in later newspaper versions of the joke.” He concludes, “But as the idiom ‘say uncle’ is apparently strictly American, the joke cannot be an allusion to the idiom, and hence the idiom must be an allusion to the joke.”
Few matters are clear-cut in etymology and there’s room for an unexplained transfer of language between US and British English (say somebody taking the US expression across the Atlantic long before it was first written down, which inspired an English comedian to produce the joke, which was then fed back the other way). But the balance of probabilities is heavily weighted towards the American idiom being derived from an English joke.

I think the most irresponsible person on earth has the name of “Somebody.” I don’t know where he or she lives, but I always hear about this person. When people say “I wish Somebody would do this!” or “I think Somebody forgot to do that.” Makes me think that perhaps I should go and visit Somebody, but I don’t know where he or she lives. Can someone tell me where Somebody lives?
CHRONIC FLUORIDE POISONING
Q&A
by Jason A. Uttley
1). What is the most obvious disease linked to chronic fluoride poisoning?
Hypothyroidism.
"Today, many people living in fluoridated communities are ingesting doses of fluoride (1.6-6.6 mg/day) that fall within the range of doses (2 to 10 mg/day) once used by doctors to reduce thyroid activity in hyperthyroid patients. This is of particular concern considering the widespread problem of hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid) in the United States. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include obesity, lethargy, depression, and heart disease."
Paul Connett, PhD
Co-Founder, Fluoride Action Network

2). What amount of fluoride do EPA scientists think is safe, to prevent hypothyroidism & other adverse effects associated with water fluoridation?
Zero.
“Decreased thyroid function is an adverse health effect, particularly to individuals with inadequate dietary iodine. These individuals could be affected with a daily fluoride dose of 0.7 mg/day (for a “standard man”). Since this is less than the amount already in the diet, the MCLG should be zero.”
Robert J. Carton, PhD
EPA scientists, including Robert J. Carton and J. William Hirzy, the former and present leaders of the EPA Union of Scientists in Washington D.C., respectively, have called for the EPA’s Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) for Fluoride to be immediately changed to ZERO.

“Like many of our professional colleagues, we long held a belief that the practice of water fluoridation was highly beneficial and relatively low-risk. We are now convinced that it is of small benefit, and carries an unacceptably large risk.
What changed our thinking so dramatically on this important issue? While reviewing medical studies for a new book, we were shocked to learn about the disturbing fluoride-thyroid connection.
We had been a prevention-oriented doctor-nurse team working together for twenty-five years. We had raised three children together, and had always viewed good dental care as an integral part of a complete health program. After training at Harvard and Walter Reed respectively, Rich worked at the National Institutes of Health and Karilee served as a nursing professor, before we each eventually settled into private practice. Nothing on this path shook our faith in fluoride.
In fact, it was not until we were working with a New York publisher that we really did our homework on this subject. The topic of our book, Thyroid Power (HarperCollins 2001), was the unexplained skyrocketing of thyroid disease and its spin-off epidemics of fatigue, depression, anxiety, infertility, and overweight. While researching influences on the thyroid gland, we were astounded by the large number of fluoride citations. We were confronted with long lists of articles, from scientists around the world, reporting in medical journals about the harmful effects of fluoride.
But fluoride is not simply an isolated problem for identified thyroid patients. As a widespread hormone disruptor it is very likely to be causing wider mischief, even at supposed safe levels. Fluoride is, of course, just one of a great many environmental hormone disruptors. However, it is the only one we purposely put into our drinking water.”

4). What emerging disease appears to represent the most severe form of chronic fluoride poisoning?
Fibromyalgia (FMS).
"It has been proposed here that many chronic Pain-Fatigue Syndromes (including CFS, FMS, and PGS) are caused by magnesium deficiency plus concomitant fluoride excess (MDFE), and that these chronic illnesses present a major and growing worldwide public health concern due to decreasing intake of Mg and ever-increasing levels of exposure to fluoride compounds used in industry, agriculture, medicine, and household and personal hygiene products. “
Julia A. Laylander
Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 1999
See “The Cause of Fibromyalgia” article at Earth Clinic…
http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/fibromyalgia.html
5). Is Fibromyalgia associated with thyroid dysfunction?
Yes.
"Dr. Lowe and several other researchers have determined that some 90% of fibromyalgia patients have thyroid disease. The thyroid diseases include primary hypothyroidism, central hypothyroidism, and cellular resistance to thyroid hormone.”
Dr. John C. Lowe
Director of Research, Fibromyalgia Foundation of America
Earth Clinic’s Fibromyalgia Questionnaires have identified Hypothyroidism as one of the most common pre-existing conditions in those suffering from Fibromyalgia. Here are just a few of the many references we’ve seen…
"I believe Fibro is a type of massive system failure of the endocrine system beginning in the hypothalamus and affecting the thyroid, pituitary and adrenals. That in turn causes other systems to malfunction. Also seems to be a serious problem with nutrients not being absorbed at the cellular level in spite of normal blood tests.”
Jean (Marysville, Washington)
"I have recently learned that iodine could be the missing link in this. I was recently found to be extremely iodine deficient. Fluoride can only sit on the receptor sites where there is not enough iodine. So it seems that if one is lacking in iodine they are much more susceptible to fluoride toxicity and also heavy metal toxicity. Dr Brownstein has written an excellent book on iodine deficiency and the fluoride connection.”
Pat (Toledo, Ohio)
"I suspect it's thyroid related. Docs are too quick to pass out antidepressants instead of looking for the physical cause of depression. Treat the cause NOT the symptom and we'll all get better. The crap they put in our food and water is a big problem. Soy and hormones are mixed into everything. Kids are hitting early puberty and having thyroid problems, but instead of recognizing the mutation for what it is, physicians just say 'that's the norm for now.’”
Patty (Ocean View, Hawaii)
"Please! There is a reason Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum opened all those centers for fibro & chronic fatigue. He HAD those diseases himself. He is right! I'm not the only person saying this. Talk to others at Natural Thyroid Hormones on Yahoo group."
Amy (Reston, Virginia)
6). Is the lab test to measure thyroid dysfunction sensitive enough?
No.
"The big myth that persists regarding thyroid diagnosis is that an elevated TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level is always required before a diagnosis of hypothyroidism can be made. Normally, the pituitary gland will secrete TSH in response to a low thyroid hormone level. Thus an elevated TSH level would typically suggest an underactive thyroid.
The basic problem that traditional medicine has with diagnosing hypothyroidism is the so-called ‘normal range’ of TSH is far too high: Many patients with TSH's of greater than 2.0 (not 4.5) have classic symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism (see below). So, if your TSH is above 2.0 there is a strong chance your thyroid gland is not working properly.”
Dr. Joseph Mercola, M.D.
Based on criticism, the recommended ‘normal range’ for the TSH test was reduced. Unfortunately, many labs have been slow to implement this change, as Fibromyalgia experts who understand the thyroid connection, like Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, are quick to point out…
“For over a decade, my research and that of many other researchers in the field has shown that hypothyroidism, like most other illnesses that affect predominantly women, has been dramatically under diagnosed. The American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), the nation's largest organization of thyroid specialists, has now confirmed this. After a recent meeting, the normal range for thyroid tests was dramatically narrowed.
Now, 18 months after the new directives have been given, doctors are still largely unaware of these new lab guidelines for diagnosis and treatment. Even the major labs doing thyroid testing have not bothered to change the now incorrect normal ranges for both diagnosis & treatment of thyroid disorders.”
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D.
Medical Director, Fibromyalgia & Fatigue Centers Inc.
7). Besides thyroid dysfunction, what are the other symptoms associated with chronic fluoride poisoning?
George Waldbott, M.D., the Founder of the International Society for Fluoride Research (ISFR), one of the 20th Century's top experts in chronic fluoride toxicity, highlighted the “major” symptoms of chronic fluoride poisoning in the 1978 book, Fluoridation: The Great Dilemma…
“Fluoride is one of the most toxic chemicals in the world. It is a product that comes from the manufacture of superphosphic fertilizers, and is so toxic it can’t be dumped anywhere. Through lobbying, fluoride was then sold to municipalities and dumped in our water supplies under the guise of being good for our teeth. It’s a big lie and nothing could be further from the truth.
Fluoride adversely affects virtually every organ in the body, primarily your thyroid gland. It can be seen that the areas in America that have the most fluoride in the water have the highest obesity rate because people’s metabolisms go down. Fluoride makes you depressed and causes all types of physical problems. ”
Kevin Trudeau

8). Is fluoridated water the only major source of toxic fluoride exposure?
No. In fact, the biggest threat of developing the most severe forms of chronic fluoride poisoning may actually stem from fluoride-based prescription drugs, such as fluorinated antibiotics like Cipro.
Although prescription drugs don’t contain relatively large amounts of fluoride, the forms of fluoride are, in some cases, SO toxic they can induce chronic fluoride poisoning following extended, or repeated use.
“In summary, Cipro causes fluoride poisoning. But will any practitioner know how to deal with this, considering that the American Dental Association has shielded all practitioners from proper knowledge of fluoride toxicity?”
Andreas Schuld
Founder, Parents of Fluoride Poisoned Children (PFPC)
Earth Clinic’s Fibromyalgia Questionnaires frequently reference antibiotic treatment prior to the development of Fibromyalgia and its related conditions. Here are just a few of the many examples we’ve seen…
“Healthy and fit. Developed fibromyalgia after hysteroctemy and bladder repair. Had UTI and catheter for 6 weeks following. Treated with several antibiotics during that 6 weeks, one of them being Cipro for 3 weeks.”
Margie (Baden, Pennsylvania)
“I had step throat. Took antibiotics. The symptoms remained and I felt sicker. After two months and many tests I was diagnosed with CFS. Now the doctor says it is Fibromyalgia.”
Natalie (Upstate, New York)
“I believe that the doctors are a large part of the problem. I would go to the doctor and they would look at me and say that there was nothing wrong with me…. From 29 - 39 I would repeatedly get infections and they would prescribe me antibiotics. There was 1 period when I would get an infection every 3 weeks but still the doctors would give me antibiotics and treated me like a hypochondriac. They only started paying attention to me when at age 39 I began a search for what was wrong with me when I went from 125lbs to 200 lbs while eating healthy.”
Glenda (Chicago, Illinois)
“I believe there are many reasons [for fibromyalgia to develop] including antibiotics and other prescribed meds, thyroid problems, infections, and chemicals in our environment.”
Alvita (Detroit, Michigan)
“Now that I think back, my symptoms began after I started developing allergies to antibiotics.”
Christine (San Bernardino, California)
Was Your Rate of Decline Fast? “Yes---but the only drugs I remember taking were antibiotics.”
Jennifer (South Carolina)
“I was taking a lot of antibiotics in my 20's as I was prone to UTI's. I don't remember which ones. I never took long them for long durations.
Pat (Toledo, Ohio)
“Didn't know about the fluoride side of this until tonight, but as a child was not given fluoride tablets or fluoridated water, however getting over a dose of antibiotics has always been hard.”
Larney (Brisbane, Australia)
“What antibiotics contain fluoride? I took some as a child. When I was a child my joints would lock up on me causing severe pain and no one knew why.”
Maureen (Orlando, Florida)
“Suffered for 5yrs with Anxiety Disorder. Had bout of sinusitis, then took antibiotics. 2 days later my CFS/Fibro started.”
Gary (London, England)
9). Which prescription drugs contain fluoride?
Prescription drugs with “FL” in their chemical name typically reference fluoride as an ingredient. However, since other drugs may contain fluoride as well, it is a good idea to look up the specific chemical makeup of medications online at a site like… www.rxlist.com

10). What are the 5 products containing fluoride you most want to avoid?
Especially the fluoroquinolone antibiotics or any other fluoride-based drug whose list of so-called side effects appear to mirror the known symptoms of chronic fluoride poisoning.

Number of Americans Seeking Emergency Food Assistance Up 46 Percent Since 2006, Report Finds
One in eight Americans — or more than 37 million people, including 14 million children and nearly 3 million seniors — receive emergency food each year through the nation's network of foodbanks and the agencies they serve, a new report from Feeding America finds. The number represents an increase of 46 percent since 2006.
Based on data collected by Mathematica Policy Research, including a survey of some 37,000 food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency feeding programs, the report, Hunger in America 2010 (431 pages, PDF), found that approximately 5.7 million people receive emergency food assistance each week from agencies served by one of Feeding America's more than 200 foodbanks — a 27 percent increase since 2006, when the organization last released such a study. The survey also found that more than one in three client households is experiencing very low food security — a jump of 54 percent since 2006.
Over that period, the report found significant increases in the number of children (50 percent), Hispanics (66 percent), and African Americans (26 percent) being served annually by emergency food programs; the number of households with seniors facing very low food security (64 percent); and the number of households that have to choose between paying for food or their rent or mortgage (39 percent), their utilities or heating fuel (46 percent), or their medical bills (34 percent).
"Clearly, the economic recession, resulting in dramatically increasing unemployment nationwide, has driven unprecedented, sharp increases in the need for emergency food assistance and enrollment in federal nutrition programs," said Feeding America president and CEO Vicki Escarra. "Hunger in America 2010 exposes the absolutely tragic reality of just how many people in our nation don't have enough to eat. Millions of our clients are families with children finding themselves in need of food assistance for the very first time."

Whereas these seven leaders have been imprisoned for well over a year and are yet to stand trial, the trial having been delayed multiple times;
Whereas official Iranian media has announced that they will face charges of `espionage for Israel, insulting religious sanctities and propaganda against the Islamic Republic';
Whereas these seven Baha'i leaders were targeted solely on the basis of their religion; and
Whereas the Government of Iran is party to the International Covenants on Human Rights: Now, therefore, be it

U.S. Senate passes 11th resolution condemning the persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran
01:25 pm on Dec 2nd 2009 OEA
On December 1, the U.S. Senate passed by unanimous consent a resolution condemning the state-sponsored persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran, the country’s largest religious minority. Human rights violations against the Iranian Bahá’í community have increased since 2005, including the incarceration of Bahá’í leaders in Evin prison eighteen months ago.
S.Res.71 is a concurrent resolution to H.Res.175—the eleventh congressional resolution since 1982 to address the religious oppression of the Bahá’ís in Iran—which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on October 22, 2009.
In a press release issued on Dec. 3, Senator Ron Wyden, who sponsored the Senate resolution, made the following statement about its passage:
While the Baha’i faith teaches equality, unity and peace, the baseless persecution of Baha’is at the hands of the Iranian regime is the antithesis of those sacred beliefs,” Wyden said. “The actions taken by Iran against this religious minority fly in the face of basic human rights as well as Iran’s own international commitments. With this resolution, the United States Senate unequivocally denounces Iran’s discrimination against the Baha’i and urges the release of their religious prisoners.
And in a similar press release, Senator Sam Brownback made this statement:
For too long, the Iranian regime has targeted and persecuted religious minorities in Iran, including, and especially, members of the Baha’i faith. For a regime that commits violence and repression at home and exports terrorism abroad, the stakes are too high for us to remain silent.
